Yo ho! A pirate bedroom for me!

A pirate-themed roomI have found what I want. A Minnesota designer decided to create this live-in playground for his nephew and brother that includes a pirate ship, slide, climbing wall and more. See the full story here.

An escape hatch that leads down through the bottom of the pirate shipA hidden staircase behind a bookshelfThis is one of my favorite features—a hidden staircase behind a bookshelf. It’s such a simple thing to do but it creates that air of mystery that can change the feeling of the entire house.

I ran into this article on houzz.com. If you haven’t been to Houzz, it’s a design and architecture site that will leave you brimming with great ideas for ways to plus your home. They have things from storage ideas to color concepts to big crazy pirate ships hanging fro the ceiling. If you want to tinker with a room or drop a fully armed nuclear experience warhead on your house, this site has it all.

If you haven’t read the story yet, the house also has a spiraling slide that leads down into the basement. You can’t help but wonder how long you would use that slide. Would something that seems really cool now quickly become a “meh” feature? A friend of mine in high school had a pool table and he once told me, “A pool table is the coolest thing, until you have one.” After a few trips down that slide getting covered in static you might say, “You know, I’m gonna take the stairs.” At least a pool table won’t get you all static-y if you slide across it.

  1. Yeah, and a swimming pool in your backyard is the coolest thing until you one, too, right??? But Jonathan, as your mother, I think you would use your pirate room for a lifetime. C’mon Cristi…do it!!!!
